It can change the size,\nwidth and profile of your nose. It can smooth out depressions or bumps on the\nbridge, and fix an imperfect nasal tip (one that is too large, droopy or curves\nupward). Large or wide nostrils may be reshaped, and a deviated septum can be\ncorrected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhinoplasty is\na common and safe procedure, but there are risks inherent with any surgery.\nThese include infection, bleeding, pain, bruising, swelling, numbness, nasal\nasymmetry, skin contour irregularities and perforations in the nasal septum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Surgical Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Surgery is\nperformed using either a local or general anesthetic. It typically takes an\nhour or two, but when more complex restructuring is required the procedure may\nlast longer. An incision is made \u2013 usually inside the nostrils \u2013 and the nose\nis either reduced or augmented using cartilage from other parts of the body. If\na deviated septum needs to be corrected, it is straightened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the nasal\nstructure has been reshaped, the incisions are closed and the patient is given\na splint and packing to help support the nose as it heals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recovery <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most patients\nreturn home the same day, though more complicated procedures may require a\nbrief hospital stay. You\u2019ll be asked to rest in bed immediately after the\nsurgery, keeping your head elevated in order to reduce swelling and bleeding.\nDressings usually come off after a week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may experience puffiness in the face and minor bruising for a few days while you heal.
